Spring Cleaning - Dump Your Junk

Dump Your Junk has been extremely popular.  We hope that this program has helped your spring cleaning and we thank you for taking part in our spring cleaning initiative too.  The program will end on Saturday, May 11th.
Please see depot hours below.

As part of the Town’s continuing efforts to keep Nanton clean, we invite you to start your personal spring clean-up on Wednesday, May 1st.  This project has been initiated by Town Council to assist residents with removal of their unwanted items.

There will be two 40-yard bins at the Nanton Recycle Depot. These bins are to collect larger household items, etc. from furniture to car bumpers.  The bin will be accessible during the depot hours (listed below).  It is the responsibility of the owner to properly dispose of their items.  We strongly encourage you to sort your waste and recycle appropriate materials before you head to the depot. For more information, contact Clinton Bishop at cbishop@nanton.ca or 403-646-2029.

STREET SWEEPING

The Town of Nanton has commenced with the 2013 spring street sweeping program. Residents are asked to watch for signs indicating that street sweepers are in your neighbourhood. When no parking signs are in place, please park your vehicle off-street to ensure the area in front of your home is cleaned. Street sweeping, like many outdoor activities, is weather dependent. Although signs may be out, sweeping will not take place in poor weather. There will be no sweeping on weekends, however, signs may be placed on routes the Friday prior to Monday sweeping. Parking restrictions are not in effect on Saturdays or Sundays.

While crews are out working on our roads, please be mindful of the heavy equipment they are using. Slow
down as you drive around and remember that they are not as manoeuverable as a car.

NANTON SCOUT ASSOCIATION

The Nanton Scout Association runs an important youth program for children aged 5-7 (Beaver Scouts), 8-10 (Cub Scouts), 11-14 (Scouts) and aged 14-17 (Venturer Scouts) which focuses on encouraging self confidence and independence while teaching a love and respect for god, the outdoors, the community, and others.  The program helps equip youth with the skills and knowledge to become physically fit, energetic, outgoing conscientious and compassionate.

The Nanton Scout Association is in desperate need of volunteers in order to keep this vital community program active.  Without the commitment from a few generous people willing to donate their time, the program will be forced to close permanently.  You DO NOT need to have a registered child in the program in order to participate, and the only requirements are that you pass a criminal record check and in some cases do a few small online training courses.

We are currently in need of people to fill the following positions:

GROUP COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON - This person would oversee the day to day operations of our organization.  it is not hard work, and only requires the dedication of an organized person to oversee deadlines and help where needed.  Training is available from the current person holding this position, who is retiring due to health complications.

REGISTRAR - This person would be responsible for heading the Registration Night at the start of each new season (Late September usually) and helps submit registration data to Scouts Canada by using an online program.  The current Registrar is available to train you, but is retiring as she is also an active Section Leader for the youth.

FUNDRAISING MANAGER - This person would help organize and manage our two major fundraising events.  The Popcorn Sales, and the Christmas Tree Sales (October & December) and any additional brainstormed ideas through out the 10 month program.  Parent volunteers usually help round out the responsibilities, this person would simply be organizing and deligating duties for each fundraiser to go smoothly.

HALL MAINTENANCE MANAGER - This person would be responsible for overseeing all Hall needs such as lightbulb changes, furnace maintenance, fire saefty equiptment checks, etc.  Parent volunteers often assist in repairs as well.

SECTION LEADERS - Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts are always in need of volunteers to help run the groups.  Planning and brainstorming is usually done as a group once a month, and all leaders conribute.  Meetings are once weekly, with occassional weekend events/trips.  These adult volunteers are expected to act as respectable and trustworthy role models and leader figures for the youth, and do require a small amont of online training to learn the system in addition to a police record check.  You can be a full time leader, or a part time parent helper!

Please email Kim Williamson - kmrwilliamson@gmail.com if you are able to assist the Scout Association with ANY of these positions!
PLEASE NOTE: The Scout Programs run from early September straight through to the beginning of July each year.
