Nanton’s Centennial Park boasts a huge array of recreational
activities. Located at the north end of Nanton, it is easily
accessible from Highway #2 Southbound. The Centennial Park is
adjacent to the Nanton Community Centre. The Park features four
quality baseball diamonds that are a hub of activity from spring
to fall. There is also a batting cage at this area. These
diamonds may be booked through the
Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre.
Centennial Park also has horseshoe pits, beach volleyball courts
and a large fenced playground area for the youngsters. As well,
the first phase of Nanton’s Millennial Pathway weaves its way
around this park, giving residents a paved, secure and scenic
tour of the park. This park is an ideal location for residents
and tourists to stop and enjoy a picnic lunch at its many picnic
tables in the shade of the large trees. Within this park is the
Bomber Command Museum.
The Lion’s Grove Park is located at the south end of Nanton, off
Highway #2 Southbound. Nestled within the “Boomers Hill”
ecological area, it is the ideal location for bird watching. A
camp kitchen is a great feature for family picnics. The second
phase of the Millenial Pathway system, to be completed this
year, winds itself around the area, connecting to the
residential area and to the first phase, in the Centennial
Park. Ample parking is conveniently located along the service
road off the highway.
Although Luther Park does not have extensive facilities, this
lovely grassed area is located just off Highway #533 East. It
makes for an excellent quiet retreat for picnics, or a relaxing
game of lawn bowling or croquet. Adjacent to the Mosquito Creek
at the Nanton Campground, it is an ideal location for small
gatherings.
